Random Teams from Names (Fixed Team Count)

Paste a list of names, choose how many teams you want, and the calculator will randomly distribute everyone into that many teams.

Empty lines are ignored. You can paste from a class list, spreadsheet column, or any text document.

Remove duplicate names (each person appears only once).

This affects only the order of names inside each team, not how the teams are formed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the random teams fixed team count calculator split people into teams?

It first builds a clean participant list by ignoring empty entries and optionally removing duplicates. Then it shuffles the list and distributes people across the selected number of teams as evenly as possible.

Why do team sizes differ by at most one person?

When splitting n participants into k teams, the most even distribution is achieved by balancing team sizes so no team is more than one member larger than another. The calculator uses this balancing rule while still assigning members randomly.

What does handle duplicates mean for team assignment?

When enabled, repeated names are kept only once so each person is counted a single time. When disabled, repeated names remain in the list and can affect who is included in the draw.

Does sorting names inside each team change who ends up on a team?

No. Sorting changes only how names are displayed within each team after the teams are formed, not the random assignment of participants to teams.
