How to use the Aspect Ratio Calculator
Resize while keeping the same ratio
- Enter the Original W and Original H.
- Enter either Target W or Target H.
- Keep Lock ratio enabled to automatically compute the missing side.
- Optionally choose a Preset ratio (16:9, 1:1, etc.) to force a specific aspect ratio.
- Click Calculate to show the new dimensions, simplified ratio, and scaling percentage.
Understand the results
- New size: the resized width × height.
- Aspect ratio: simplified ratio (like 16:9).
- Scaling: percent change compared to the original size (when original dimensions are provided).
Use the rectangle preview
After you calculate, the preview rectangle smoothly updates to reflect the current aspect ratio of the resized output.
If you change inputs afterward, the preview and values update automatically.
Fit inside vs Cover (contain vs crop)
- Enter Frame W and Frame H to represent the container (like a video player or a banner area).
- Choose whether the source is the resized size or the original size using the checkbox.
- Select Fit inside (contain) to see the full image with possible padding, or Cover (crop) to fill the frame and see cropping amounts.
